For the pencil bee, I used a modified version of the big bee from the “Pocket Bee & No-Sew Family” pattern from Handmade by Hennek (available on Etsy here). I used Parfait Chunky yarn (save 10% off your first order of Premier Yarns) in the colors: Bubblegum, Fog, Sunshine, Toffee, Black, and White. See below for how I modify the pattern to look like a pencil:
- Rows 1-6: Bubblegum
- Rows 7-8: Fog
- Rows 9-15: Sunshine (sometimes I add in one more row of Sunshine)
- Rows 17-18 Toffee
- Rows 18-20 Black (sometimes I add in one more row of Black)
I used a 5mm crochet hook for the wings and a 4.5mm crochet hook for the bee. I used these 14mm safety eyes and this baker’s twine to tie on the tag.

And last but certainly not least…celebrate teachers all school year long with the classic saying: The influence of a good teacher can never BEE erased!
